Wars of the Roses Northern Border Spearmen

Post by Eques »

Does anyone know anything about them historically and what 15mm models could be used to represent them?

Thanks

Black Hat Miniatures (ex Gladiator Games) sell some in their WotR range. They look like generic spearmen to me... :)

For painting, livery colours are vertical black and white stripes...

No the Black Hat ones are just their Militia billmen with spears substitued for bills. This could be a legitimate representation but I don't know. Do you have any historical information on them, what battles they fought in, how they were used, what was their genesis?

There must have been some reason why the compilers included them over and above the Northern Border Billmen.

Their appearance in lists is due to muster rolls indicating spears rather than bills. Whether this indicated a different troop type or a different part of the country calling the same weapon a different name is unknown.

Thanks, thinking I might just use Scottish spearmen of some sort, positing a bit of borderland cross pollination.
