Which Game?

Post by davelogan69 »

Hi. I am kind of late coming to the Panzer Core scene. I see that the DLC's all work with the Afrika Korps game. My question is whether there is a point in buying the original Panzer Corps Wermacht if one buys Afrika Korps? Are the scenarios/campaign in Wermacht available elsewhere (or is this the reason to buy the original game)? Thanks.

The original game is a relatively fast-moving series of large-scale maps that can take you from Poland to a hypothetical invasion of the US. These campaigns and scenarios are not replicated in AK or the DLCs, and there is more path-dependence in the original game campaigns than in the later releases. If you never played Panzer General, you should definitely give it a try.

Okay Thanks for the info. I've played Panzer General a bunch, so I'll skip it.

The scenarios are still enjoyable in my opinion, and especially the US scenarios are totally new and lots of fun (only 3 there, but PG had only 1) Also they familiarize you very well with some of the new possibilities and rule changes like railroads etc. But admittedly, some of the early britzkrieg scenarios are repetitive if you have played PG already. I still enjoyed them though...

I personally will go for AK and skip the vanilla. I found the vanilla scenarios lacking content, it is probably not even as good as some user-made mods that you can get for free, the AK scenarios are more interesting than vanilla IMO. The DLCs are far better, I would recommend getting those DLCs, especially if they produce a megapack at a reduced price. All 10 DLCs at $50 is pricey IMO.

Pricey? 18 scenarios each = 180 scenarios, roughly 2 hours playtime for each = 320 hours of playtime if you play every scenario only once.... there's shooters out there that cost 60 bucks and are 10 hours long max...
