Unit nicknames?

Post by ExiledZebra »

Do any of you guys nickname your units? (for those who don't know, you press alt. + N) If so what are they called (few examples) ? And why did you chose those nicknames (if there is a reason)?

For instance:

infantry: Ghost Bear (like Clan Ghost Bear in Mechwarriors), Cutlass, Rapier (these two are codenames for EU infantry in Tom Clancy's EndWar), Reaper etc.

Tanks: Guderian's own (meaning his personal unit), Devil's Armor, Jester etc.

TD: Typhoon etc.

Artillery: DivinePunishment, Buffalo, Kodiak etc.

Aircraft: Snow Owl, Frost Wing, Harrier, Death's Knell etc.

Best Ju87 I have gets called Goering and all Go229s are renamed "Flying Wing" and then a Roman numeral for the 2nd ->

Otherwise I don't bother

I name all my units to keep them in order by divisions. But nicknames, for the most part no. The only ones Ive ever used were Blue, Red, and Black Max. that I gave to fighters with good heros.

Now one nickname i recall from the old PG days was the infantry unit i named the Gravediggers!!

I name them after its greatest hero name followed by and abbreviation of its bonus. For example: "Oleh Dir: M3 I3" (thats for movement +3 and Initiative +3). This way i get both, personalization and practical tactical information.

But definitely naming them makes them feel more special and satisfies my rpg lust.

I'm not very imaginative with unit names.

When Rudel is still using a Stuka I name the best escort fighter as Rudel's Mate to keep him safe.

One of my tanks with 3 spotting heroes became Super Spot. While I prefer combat heroes, 5 spotting covers a lot of ground, and a 4* tiger can usually cope with being a bit exposed every now and then.

The rest tend to be along the lines of 5A, 5D, Fast etc.

3 of them were done in 1 minute - part of it may be a technical error - but still 8 times is too many!

I'm sorry, the site had a 504 error, I'll try to delete them.

Hmm, somehow the X has now disappeared. I guess I will report myself?

I rename my units based upon their heroes. This way you can see what traits they have without opening the unit window just by clicking on them. E.g. Atk+2, Def+1 Move+1, etc

You can only delete your post for a limited time. It's a standard setting for most forums.

Anyway i had a look at the multi-posts and even i as moderator can't delete any of them. I can edit them, lock them, move them somewhere else but not delete them. Either we have to accept they are there or need to talk to the "higher powers".
