Willkommen; introducing new players to the community
Willkommen!
I wanted to start a thread to allow new players (like myself!) to "introduce" themselves to the Panzer Corps Community, ask those damned foolish questions & get feedback on their experiences.

Grüße Kameraden des Panzer Corps, Greetings fellow Officers of the Panzer Corps
I am a proud (recent) graduate of the Panzer Schule. Tonight I am embarking on my first campaign, Fall Weiß.I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to my fellow Officers of the Panzer Corps community. I have not before played this style of gaming but was looking for something new to capture my imagination. After researching some, I discovered the passionate commitment of a dedicated few to Panzer General & it's successors, actual & conceptual. I settled on Panzer Corps due to it still being published/supported by it's developers, as well it's active community & the variety/range of mods available (not to mention the developers keen support in this area!!).
I completed all of Panzer Schule as Colonel, except for the last mission, in which promoted myself to General! I must say I was impressed with AI's improvement. It certainly made me more cautious with my units & purchases. With increased losses I'll have settle more often for those damned "Green" replacements
I'm thinking for my first play through I'll attempt a General difficulty.
I look forward to gaining the skill & knowledge to lead my troops to victory & to sharing that experience with the rest of you. Wish me luck Kameraden!!

Re: Willkommen; introducing new players to the community
Congrats for playing. I assume you are playing the 39 Campaign and not the main PC campaign. They are different in scope and difficulty. For the first 39 mission, I have the following tips and recommendations as I am replaying the campaing right now:
1. Buy additional core units. I usually play at max to start.
2. Don't be afraid to own more units than you can deploy. Some scenarios restrict what you can do.
3. Artillery is your army's friend.
4. Infantry in terrain will hurt tanks.
5. The AI views recon units as priority targets.
Don't be afraid to save and reload.

Thanks, mdh_slith.
Hmmn, I've not got any DLC as yet. Maybe I'm playing a scenario not a campaign!
1/2. I was concerned whether I'd always be able to make use tactically of my core, especially the more specialised ones like Bridging Pioneers. In Panzer Schule I noted that it was usually the same cost to purchase a new unit, as it was to upgrade say Mountaineer troops to Calvary (there was an exception in the infantry were you paid the difference between the original & the new, but I forget which one..?). It's good to know you can "own" more core than you can deploy.
3: Loving the artillery & anything that cause suppression already!
4: I assume the infantry in terrain advantage over mechanized is about forcing the "close" stats to play out? Thanks for the reminder!
5. Recon are priority targets for the enemy, I guess that makes sense as the more Intel you the have the informed your dispositions. Does that mean you can use Recon with their special movement to lure enemy units out of position?
I'm trying not to reload unless something happens where I didn't understand the risk/consequences. Many thanks for your response

Re: Willkommen; introducing new players to the community
I am afraid the reason why the AI loves to kill your recon units is a bit less ... sophisticated. The AI prefer to attack units where the combat prediction gives it the best odds. The recons being quite fragile versus tanks, especially later in the war, coupled with the fact that due to their role they are often found in front of your army leads to recon units having a very short life span if you aren't really careful with them.SARIN wrote: 5. Thanks TARRAK, good to know. I'm already feeling for those poor weakened non core units I'm going to sacrifice

Re: Willkommen; introducing new players to the community
From your writing style and enthusiasm, it looks like you could be a good contributor to the AAR (After Action Report) pages.
Don't be too upset if your recon gets beaten up - it's cheap to reinforce or replace and though it might last a bit longer with some experience stars, it works nearly as well when brand new with no experience. If you get a good hero, make sure you have reform units switched on, as you keep the heroes on the reformed unit.
Good luck!

I'll be following along with interest.
If I could give you 1 piece of advice, it would be to get the DLC grand campaign and search for 'turn off prestige soft cap in 1.2.' OK, that's 2 pieces of advice- but they go hand in hand imo- the soft cap is broken in 1.2 which leads to big problems in the later campaigns: something I only found out about too late.
Oh , and don't think of them as recon in the early campaigns: think of them as wannabe tanks. They are roughly as powerful as Panzer 1 & 2s just with an insane movement benefit. I don't bother with tanks except SEs until Panzer 4s.
If you like your stats- check out the excellent dossier tool. Really makes the units & progress come alive.
