Cohesion test

Post by genehaynes »

Regarding close combat (Impact & mele), is a cohesion done (by the losing side) anytime the combat result is anything OTHER THAN "indecisive"? I ask this because in the cohesion test table pg 43 of the printed manual mentions a -1 modifier when losing close combat "even partly against mounted troops". How would a "partial loss" appear in the combat details screen ?

Yes

That is a hangover from the FOGR tabletop rules where all close combats are resolved before the test is taken. The modifier applies even if not all of the opponents are mounted troops (and even if the mounted troops did not inflict more damage than they caused, as long as the unit suffered more damage than it inflicted overall). Hence " even partly against mounted troops".

In Pike and Shot, only the enemy unit that immediately inflicted the test applies for this purpose (not any others that are in close combat with the unit this turn), so the the words "even partly" should not be in the Pike and Shot chart.
