The game gets stuck thinking as us on pearl harbour. I've restarted the scenario and its still does it around turn 12.

Hi everybody,

I have exactly the same problem. (see attached files, dxdiag, endturnsave, outputlog etc. in a zip)

Three months ago, I played the game and participated in the open beta. After that, I was just too busy to continue playing OoBP (and a bit annoyed - frankly, the technical issues made this game mostly unplayable).

I have recently rebuilt my system and have just restarted playing OoBP. Previously, I had trouble loading during AI turns. Now, it won't even finish the first mission in the U.S. campaign.

The problem: During the Pearl Harbour mission, the AI freezes during Turn 12. To be specific, it is during the AI U.S. turn, which means when the Battleships and Destroyers begin leaving that small Fjord (or at least try to). Up until that point, the AI turns were pretty fast. But precisely around Turn 12, the AI bar begins to fill up very slowly (2-5 min) until it is full and then... well, nothing happens.

I have fiddled around with the performance tab, reduced detail and have restarted the mission. The freeze always happens after Turn 12. I am pretty sure that my PC is capable of handling this game - and the fact that it always crashes around Turn 12 points to a specific problem in a scripted sequence for that Mission. I think what might be broken is the script that tells the U.S. battleships to leave.

Thank you for your help.

I just want to say that I have the exact same problem. The game says the AI is thinking on the 12th turn of the pearl harbor campaign playing the allies.

Hi everybody,

in the Forums, I stumbled across somebody who made the offhand remark that you can "force" your turn by pressing "strg-enter" (the shortcut you usually use when you are done moving and attacking with your own units).

Well, that did it for me. During Turn 12, when the U.S. ally AI goes into its infinite loop, wait for the bar to fill up. Then press end turn (strg-enter) - and voila, the Japanese AI goes on with its attack. And then it' s your turn again. Not pretty, but it works.

Oh yeah, I also installed a hotfix for a different problem mentioned in the forums. viewtopic.php?f=372&t=67405#p570443
However, that did nothing to alleviate the problem.

Summed up - force your turn and go on with the campaign as usual. The game still has its bugs (it has just crashed again), but at least I can finally play it.
Hope that works for you guys as well. *fingers crossed*

Oh yeah, and the game still does the usual stuff it did three months ago: Freezing during quicksave loads and during regular savegame loads.
The menu tipps cycle by and over and over, but the bar does not move.
The only thing that fixes this is an exit to desktop and restarting OoBP. Exit to menu does not work.
The funny thing is that I already consider that normal behaviour. Guess I am born thick-skinned (and own Myth III, so there. )

Sorry, didn't think about my German keyboard layout. I mean control (ctrl) -enter being pressed at the same time. (The combination of keys you press together when you want to end your turn in a regular way.) Look it up in the menu for shortkeys. Did this help?

Thanks for reporting guys, we're looking into this right now!

Every time? I tried to repeat it here but it seemed to work.

Well, I remember that during the first missions, it worked decently and later degraded into the freezes.
I think it might be related to playing for a longer time, after working around the Pearl Harbour glitch with ctrl-enter, I plowed through the first missions because I remembered them from my last aborted attempts grinding through the US campaign. During these missions, the quickload feature became buggy (loading tipps cycling, but bar not filling up. Esc - going to desktop - restart solved this.) This hints at a memory issue, right?

It is still a great game though - despite all those kinks and glitches, I love those carrier battles. :D

Maybe I can discern a pattern later on about those loading freezes. Will get back on this.
By the way, the Pearl Harbour glitch (freezing after AI turn finishes, meaning the bar is full) happened in other missions, too. I was however again able to get around this with ctrl-enter. Don't have a repeatable experience right now, maybe later.

Regarding the PH glitch: thanks for the feedback. I've found and fixed the error.

The fix will definitely be in the next patch.

EDIT: Andy, if you're seeing this elsewhere, it would be good to get a save nonetheless, just to confirm that it is indeed the same issue, and not something else.

Myrddraal, what problem? You mean the freezing AI or the freezing quickload? Or are those the same problem?

Getting a save for the freezing quickload is pretty easy (see attached). Previously, I thought this was related to playing for a longer time (or having a weakish PC). I guess I was wrong: With a new, more powerful system and just playing two turns at the very beginning of Coral Sea, it froze while doing a quickload.

If I encounter the freezing AI problem again (as in Pearl Harbour) and can isolate the incident somewhat to a certain turn / scenario / whatever, I will post a save.

I'm referring to the freezing AI problem.

Next on the list the QuickSave problem then

Do you have an output_log.txt from the quicksave issue?

If you don't mind some basic file copy-pasting, please try the fix in the attachment:

These DLL files should be pasted into your Order of Battle <root>\Order of Battle - Pacific_Data\Managed folder. Just in case, make a backup of this folder first.

When correctly applied, the version number at the bottom of the main menu should read 1.9.4e

Installed, it does read 1.9.4e. However, tried a quicksave-quickload - still the same. Tipps cycle, bar stays empty.
Or was that supposed to fix the Pearl Harbour issue around Turn 12?
