I have a suggestion! Jumping straight to the point, right after the ranged units or skirmishers have retreated to the rear of the melee and/or cavalry units, I suggest for all the melee and/or cavalry units to advance together at the same time rather than marching at the opposing units across them one by one. Once both your army's melee and/or cavalry units and the opposing army's melee and/or cavalry units have clashed and engaged in combat with their own respective fighting animations (yes, the fighting animations will play throughout the whole battle just like in Field of Glory 2 until the combat result decides that one side should lose), that's the moment when the game camera will zoom in to every pair of units locked in combat and let the dice rolling process start from there. Once the combat result has been released for a pair of units that was previously fighting, the camera will then proceed to the next pair locked in combat (from left to right) followed by a new dice roll.
Personally, I don't own Field of Glory 2 and do understand the reason behind the export and import battles feature in Field of Glory Empires knowing that Field of Glory 2's players had always longed for a time when the game would have an intricate campaign. Therefore, the release of Field of Glory Empires must've been like a dream come true for the already existing Field of Glory 2's player base.
For those players who are new to Field of Glory (not owning Field of Glory 2) and choose to not have to go through the process of exporting their battles however, this suggestion I believe would make the battles a lot more immersive without having to alter the current dice roll mechanics. As a result, players who don't own Field of Glory 2 won't feel as if they're missing much.
I really do hope you developers would consider adding these changes into the game as I'm sure this will make the game's battles more immersive and captivating to the players' eyes.

Thanks for your time!
P.S.: The reason why I'm not suggesting something too radical such as integrating the whole Field of Glory 2's battle mechanics into Field of Glory Empires is because it wouldn't be fair to Byzantine Games for the efforts that they have exerted into making their excellent Field of Glory 2 game.
