I'd want the game to get away from racist Hollywood stereotypes as much as possible.

I love that movie!
Actually I planned (at some point) to do a small campaign based on the storyline of "Kelly's Heroes" . I still think it could be fun.
Deep into enemy territory, minefields, Shermans, Tigers and gold.... :D

We actually did a game of the movie back in the 1980's. It was played last part of the movie where they get to the village where the bank is. It was played on Gothcon (a game convention)first time in 1981 and it was continued for several years. The last model of the village was 10m2 big in a 1:100 scale. As the ppl involved realized the movie was filmed in Vižinada in former Yugoslavia some guys went there and took alot of pictures to get the scaling correct. I played as both Tiger tank crew and one of the Heroes (Petchuko).

Cool, sounds fun.
Yeah, I did not check online if anybody had actually adopted the storyline to a game already...
But to be fair, I just played around with the idea a bit, and it was fun trying to make up OoB-styled scens based on what happened in the movie. :D
