Game failes to launch on Windows 11

Good evening, everyone.

I have recently upgraded to Windows 11, and three of my Byzantine games have stopped working (PSCAMP, FOG II and FOG II Medieval). I will post the errors regarding the other two games in their appropriate forums, while here goes the description of what happens in Pike & Shot Campaigns: I click on Steam to run the game, the launcher appears, and when I click to actually play, the game pops an invisible window which crashes without any error notice, and I have to close it using the task manager.

I'm running Windows 11, my CPU is an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor, my GPU is an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT and my display is 2560x1440 (144Hz).

Help would be enormously appreciated, since I cherish this game quite a lot and would be absolutely disheartened by not being able to play it again.

It looks like some installs of Windows 11 don't install the full DX9 files required. Please try installing this:

Well then, I downloaded and ran the redist, and right after that restarted the computer, but the error persists.

Can you try the following things and then try the game, one after another, to see if it helps:

+ Do Windows+S and type GPU. Choose Graphics Settings. Check that the check box at the top (Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling) is checked on. Look down and click on Browse. Choose the game EXE, and select it. Hit Options on the new entry, and choose High Performance. Try running the game.
+ Do Window+S and type Advanced Display. Choose View Advanced Display Settings. Change the refresh rate of your screen to 60Hz. Try running the game.
+ Open the OPTIONS.TXT file in Documents/My Games/PSCAMP and look at the FULLSCREEN entry. Set it to 0 and save the file. Try running the game.

Can you tell me whether you upgraded to W11 in place (over the top of your W10 install), or if it is a fresh install?

I tried all three steps in all three games but the errors persist, I'm afraid. The only difference is that now PSCAMP actually shows up an error message:

Ugh. It's acting as if it can't find DX9 driver for your GPU. Which is very odd!

+ Please try installing and running this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... aspx?id=35
+ And this: https://download.microsoft.com/download ... st_x86.exe
+ Try changing the REZX and REZY values in the OPTIONS.TXT file to 1024 and 768. Ensure that the FULLSCREEN value is set to zero.
+ In AMD Adrenalin go to Settings->Graphics->Wait for vertical refresh->Off, unless application specifies

If that still fails then I would recommend doing a full uninstall of your video card drivers and then a clean reinstall of them. There is a variety of instructions on how to do this on the web, but this might help: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601

I always have the latest version of nVidia drivers installed, have the update auto-notification enabled on GeForce Experience. Honestly, I'm suspecting the problem started AFTER one of the updates, either of Nvidia's drvs or Windows updates, because earlier I was able to run P&S Campaigns without any problems. Still, I'm not going to rollback for the sake of one game, all other titles I have usually require all the stuff up-to-date too. And everything else works without a problem.
