I am uncertain what I am seeing in regard to the Resist Magic spell/buff. Units show the purple icon, and right clicking on it says it grants plus five crosses. But these are not reflected under "resist" under the unit's stats. Which makes me wonder whether the buff is actually being appli...

If a unit has a ranged attack, the game defaults to using it, even when adjacent to an enemy. Is there a way to override this?

yes one unit per turn - note if your allies are in the region they can steal the upgrade. the message log tells you which unit (as above set this to average), open the unit's detailed screen and you'll see their defence line as something like 5(+1), the +1 indicates the benefit of the upgrade Troub...

I generally build them. In case of war, you cannot count on these to hold the enemy for very long, but it does prevent some small army from just zigzagging through your empire, taking one region per turn. Which, in turn, allows you more chance to concentrate your troops rather than spread them around.

I could be wrong, but it seems that it might be that the enemy conquered it from the ally first and then you conquered it from the enemy.
