Re: Effect of Disorder on firing/fighting

Thanks for the reply (Tony is that you)... however I'm not sure this is completely correct??? I agree in shooting there would be no effect as the 4 shot bases are not disordered - so fire at full effect. However in respect of close combat I'm not sure there is any deduction in dice? Page 38 second P...

Effect of Disorder on firing/fighting

If a 4/2 P&S unit enters disordering terrain is their any effect on their shooting or fighting ability? It would appear not as only two bases are disordered (2Pk) and disorder kicks in at 1 per 3. Are the only negatives: 1. Pk no longer count as steady. 2. Movement is reduced to 2. 3. -1 on comp...

Shooting at Supported Artillery

An Artillery Battery that has rear support of infantry touching its rear base - when opponent fires which is the target priority - the supporting infantry or Artillery?

Am I right that musket fire against both will be at 4's to hit?

Many thanks.

Re: Portable Defences

Re: Portable Defences

Thanks kevinj... I think P158, 2nd column, 1st Bullet covers it as you say... 'PD are treated as field fortifications when their defenders are in close combat against mounted, but give no advantage against foot, elephants or shooting. However, PD have no effect on movement'. What do yo think about m...

Re: Portable Defences

Footslogger to clarify this was the complete position.... Initially there were two 6 man musket units side by side - the left hand unit was slightly (0.5cm) in front of the right hand unit. The left hand unit fought with a line of 4 Determined Horse one base of which fought as an overlap positioned ...

Re: Portable Defences

Is that correct? P 157 says 'troops approaching FF must halt 1MU away' - presumably this 'approaching' refers to the normal movement phase - as it then goes onto say troops charging FF can only move 1" in the 'impact phase'. As a pursuit is neither a normal move nor in the impact phase it seems...

Re: BG firing long and short range

Heh Guys no worries I found it myself on P107 under arc of fire - only shoot at long range at same battle group 'if no base of the shooting battle group is within short range of that enemy battle group'. Seems pretty clear unless I am missing something?

BG firing long and short range

Sur ebeen asked before...
Please clarify.
Can you fire at both short and long range with different files of the same unit at the same target...
e.g. Unit of 6 musket 3 wide 2 deep - fires the left and centre file at close range (4 dice) and the right file at long range (1 dice).

Portable Defences

Had game tonight and a couple of things came up - appreciate clarification and reference in rule book. 1. If a Mounted unit is making it's first pursuit move can it choose to stop 1" away from deployed PD's or is it forced to pursue over them into fresh enemy? 2. A 3 wide 2 deep BG (all musket)...

Re: Squares

Deadtorius - Thanks for your reply. 1. I tend to agree with your reasoning here. It would appear that according to the diagrams on P.159 a unit in square will only ever be able to support 1 base of a 2 base artillery battery - potentially losing the battery if the non-supported base is touched by an...

Squares

Couple of questions/clarification please... 1. Can a BG form square and still count as 'rear support' for artillery? Note: In the case of a 6-man P/S unit there would be only 1 base facing in the direction of the artillery. On larger units you could get 2 units facing in that direction so enough to ...

5 Shot and 1 Pike Formations

Gents, 1. In a 5 shot/bayonet and 1 Pike formation it states the Pike must be in the rear rank of the centre file I.e. not in the front rank. What then is the advantage of paying an additional point for having an Armoured Pike base over an Unarmoured Pike base as only front rank counts towards armou...

Hi Thanks for replies - all understood except:- There appears a difference of opinion in whether Unit B can expand to meet Unit A's expansion... Flank Charge - Turning to face

A unit of 6 MF (Unit A) in single column charges an ememy unit of 3 wide and 2 deep MF (Unit B) in the flank. Unit B turns 2 bases (one behind the other) to face the chargers, leaving the remaining 4 bases facing in the original direction. The impact is fought. Q1 - Does Unit B suffer any penalty fo...

Rout in Impact Phase

Quick question please... 1. A unit of HCh hits a unit of Disrupted Cav in the rear and routs it in the Impact phase. 2. The Cav makes its rout move. 3. The Hch makes its pursuit move and hits a unit of disordered LH in the rear. 4. The Impact between HCh and LH is immediately fought (think this is r...
