Welcome! Check your "allied" forces above.rpadilla1988 wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 6:44 am PTOLEMY I SOTER (Ptolemaic 320-218)

4 factions left - when they are gone I will prep the league to give us an early start!
Keep in mind that these lists are maximum size, therefore low-cost units scale more and some of these lists are very strong at those sizes. Also keep in mind that PYRRHUS was perhaps the most legitimate successor to take over from Alexander!
LEONNATUS (Greek 280-228)
POLYPERCHON (Macedonian 320-261)
PHILIP SOGDIANOS (Indo-Greek 175-10)

Can I take PHILIP SOGDIANOS (Indo-Greek 175-10)?
random.org gave me 5, 19, 20, 23 (I ordered them for an easier reading)

I think your opponents will be stunned... at 2000 this list has hidden strengths!
Thank you for the reading aid to my old eyes....
You are the bastard son of Alexander (no offence intended just plausible fact) with a lot of supporters!
That leaves 24 hours on poor Greek rebel LEONNATUS (Greek 280-228).....
This army at 2000 can outflank everyone with spear and hoplon! In bad terrain it beats Macedonians or is at least equal!
LEONNATUS (Greek 280-228) 24h left for someone to take this!

Re: ADT 2025: Asterix's Inaugural Diadochi Tournament (ONE SLOT LEFT sign up Now!)
How exactly is the challenge system going to work, given we have 5 armies to choose from?

You have 4 auxilliary armies. You will declare 3 max at any point before a battle starts. Doesnt matter if home or away.... simply, you can use your diplomatic pull to get the allies in etc.

So is this a multi-step process? For example.Asterix_von_TWC wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 10:36 pmYou have 4 auxilliary armies. You will declare 3 max at any point before a battle starts. Doesnt matter if home or away.... simply, you can use your diplomatic pull to get the allies in etc.
Player 1 issues a challenge with his standard force.
Player 2 responds with his standard force.
Player 1 decides to use one of his allies.
Player 2 decides to use one of his allies.

I am creating the matchups using random generation of seven games for each player.... they will be up with terrain random generated.. you can allocate your armies at any point prior to the challenge. In theory you could end up with two secondary armies versus each other, but the challenge has to be called out before (and therefore can generate a response)Karvon wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 10:55 pmSo is this a multi-step process? This tournament looks too fun to miss.
If I'm not too late, I will take LEONNATUS and his begrudging Greeks.
My random numbers are 5, 12, 23, 29.

You are in! Last past the post! Awesome and thanks! Will put up the lists tomorrow or Sunday so all understand clearly what is possible etc.
Sadly, if anyone else is interested we have reserves now.

So then my example is probably going to be the most common path, at least as long as players have an ally option left, as players have no reason to initially start with an ally pick.Asterix_von_TWC wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 11:07 pmI am creating the matchups using random generation of seven games for each player.... they will be up with terrain random generated.. you can allocate your armies at any point prior to the challenge. Are you going to designate home and away games as in HOML, with the away player issuing challenges? If not, the challenger will always be at a disadvantage. You'd need to increase the games played to 8 in order insure equal opportunities as home and away player.

The main reason would be terrain, yes... its a variant and trump card. At 2000 though, some of the allied armies can be numerically overwhelming as well.... some of those lists are excellent.Karvon wrote: ↑Sat May 10, 2025 12:05 amSo then my example is probably going to be the most common path, at least as long as players have an ally option left, as players have no reason to initially start with an ally pick.Asterix_von_TWC wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 11:07 pmI am creating the matchups using random generation of seven games for each player.... they will be up with terrain random generated.. you can allocate your armies at any point prior to the challenge. Its an experiment, but inspired by historical use of petty satarapies to augment the war effort. Should I require one battle where you use a secondary army? Maybe

Also lauraleik has Mountain Indians twice, so probably should get a reroll for one of those.

I hope this doesn't upset play balance too much. I love large battles but haven't got great experience of many 2000 ones other than noting that some armies have very limited selection options at that size.Asterix_von_TWC wrote: ↑Sat May 10, 2025 12:15 am

My reading of ancient battles is that most of them took place in open terrain and that tactical tricks were limited and tended only to take place along that battlefront, often involving the cavalry/elephant wings. Yes there were occasional ambushes using terrain or a few buildings or ruins, but these were very rare in the Diadochi battles. I find the the most enjoyable battles in FOG 2 are when two equally matched armies slog it out in a lengthy and exhausting affray. This still gives scope for tactical skill but avoids the more extravagant stratagems that are sometimes introduced which in fairness can result in decisive results but are not always in the spirit of how most ancient historical battles played out.
The Diadochi period with its usually high proportion of infantry for extended conflict accompanied by opportunities for its less numerous cavalry/elephant components fits that more traditional scenario, hence its appeal.
