Diadochus!

Your former brothers turn on each other, meanwhile the empire begins to crumble and the conquered turn on the conquerors.

The challenges start, as always please post here and PM, also post your XENOS/HETEROGENES declaration (at least 1) here (see below)

• STARTING CHALLENGES:
  
  Post challenges here and via PM.
  
  HOME teams issue the challenge versus the teams marked H for away next to your name.
  
  Declare at least 1 XENOS/HETEROGENES army in this thread before your game is posted.
  
  Game Settings:
  
  2000 vs 2000 points
  
  30 turns
  
  Map: 48x48, Pot Luck, no rerolls (unless absurd—post screenshot) - REDUCED MAP SIZE FOR ALL SUBSEQUENT GAMES
  
  Terrain must be Potluck and should be kept unless absolutely unplayable.
  
  Ranked preferred, but unranked allowed (note this in challenge)
  
  8 games per player (not 7 due to roster change)
  
  At least 1 auxiliary/XENOS army must be used before a game is launched
  
  Start 4 games by May 30th; finish all by June 19, 2025
  
  Tournament Rules:
  
  Scoring: Win = 3 pts, Draw = 1 pt, Loss = 0. Tiebreakers: point diff → points for → head-to-head
  
  Top 4 enter single-elimination playoffs after league
  
  No-shows (after 3 weeks/no response by June 18) = automatic 3-point award
  
  Always post and PM challenges
  
  XENOS / HETEROGENES ARMIES:
  
  Use of allied forces reflects historical dynamics (e.g., satraps disrupting Macedonian campaigns)
  
  Everyone must use at least one XENOS army during initial 7 games
  
  Max 3 XENOS armies can be used in the league phase (save 4th for playoffs if desired)
  
  Declare which XENOS army you're assigning to which game in the thread
  
  Yes, XENOS vs. XENOS matchups are possible
  
  START DATE:
  Games may begin after May 14th. You'll be notified here and in the results thread once all is ready.

APPOLOGIES as some of you have more HOME games than AWAY games. My first time with this tournament and fixing it would be very difficult due to the random generation which occurred (small coding oversight).

I am posting my first example of a XENOS/HETEROGENES DECLARATION BELOW

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS POST (Thank you Simon, Karvon and markleslie for your help!)

Just to clarify things, do I understand this correctly?

1. You don't post the challenge to the MP server and issue passwords till you and your opponent have had the opportunity to sort through the decision tree about which armies are being used.

Not a requirement but an intelligent good practice from one of our great veterans. Well thought of.

2. Either player may opt to fallback on an ally list at any point in the process.

In theory, once the challenge is posted there should be no re-tasking the game (re-tasking or tasking means physically setting up the game challenge on servers). But gentleman's rule apply in our little island of the well-mannered.

3. You must use one ally list at least once.

Correct

4. You can use ally lists a maximum of 3 times.

You can use 3 of the 4 you have been given.

5. ou can use a specific ally list more than once. e.g. I or Karvon used our Graeco-Baktrians they get crossed off.

No, you cannot. Once you commit an allied list it becomes unusable in the tournament.

6. At least one of your posted challenges as Home team must initially be an ally list.

No, no rule there. You can choose an away game as well and just notify your opponent. I will be updating the challenges in the google docs file accordingly and I will be updating the thread above right between matchups and armies.

7. Decision Tree - please follow it.
a) Home team posts army choice via forum and PM
b) Away team posts army choice via forum and PM
c) Home team could opt for switching to ally posting via forum and PM
d) Away team could opt for switching ally posting via forum and PM
e) Home team posts the final challenge to MP server and sends PW using the final army selections.

I will borrow this for QandA, attribute to you and make slight changes according to "the plan"

8. Important - You need to manually set the map size to 48 x 48 as default Very Large is 48 x 32. Likewise, you need to remember to edit the game length to 30 from the default of 24.

10. After an ally has been declared, can it be withdrawn? For example, if I respond to your Graeco-Bactrian challenge with the Bithynians, could you then respond by switching back to your Macedonians? And if you did would I be able to switch to my Bosporans?

No. We cannot withdraw are bids, would make an unpleasant distraction in the tournament.

Why are you setting up our game when you are the away opponent? You just said above that away player sets up?

I understand where you saw wrong and rectified it in the main post. A next to your opponent means YOU are the away opponent and H next to your opponent means YOU are the home opponent. The google spreadsheet is the masterlist. I added a clarification.

It is a bit confusing. Basically, no one can start games until everyone has chosen their specific army for a specific game.

There are no brakes on. The home and away system ensures every can post at list one XENOS army. Sorry if its confusing, think of it as a big-old FOG2 rave maybe? Confusing can be fun (I will go clarifying as we go)

I agree - I cleaned the main thread multiple times now and will post a QandA. Thanks for pointing out the bad phrasing of the matchups I fixed it to - A are the teams you should be challenging next to your name. It does matter

Things I dropped from the tournament this round for simplicity's sake:

1. Assigning maps to each game with a random table I made (where flat ground had a greater probability to be drawn)
2. I did not realize some people have significant lag running games this size. Apologies
3. Giving Antipater the original Alexandrian-Macedonian list - I thought it might be over powered.
4. Evolving army lists between the three Diadochi wars (would get confusing)
