Did you have an earlier version of GS installed? This happened to me. I had to go into the scenario file and remove scenario files with 'ai' in the name.msu7151 wrote:Okay - it appears that I installed the game (2.0) However, when I click on the game icon I'm asked what language I want, I chose English, then The lizard appears with Silerine at the bottom and then goes off? Now what?
Grand Strategy 2.0 is here!

My guess is that if you are seeing the choose language screen, you are using the install exe not the game exe.
Hi I will try to explain. Historically the Germans were able to take Holland and Belgium in less than the current game turn (ie 20 days).mrgolf

I was just wondering why the 1940 scenario starting in February already has the Axis conquering Denmark and Holland?! It's a great start beginning as the Axis, but not historical. Why was this done this way?
So as developers we started with those countries already captured. You may still have poor weather on the first turn of the scenario. But we are allowing the player if fair weather is present can launch the attack. Through our testing the average date for France surrendering is around the historical date.
YMMV.

Another reason is that Denmark and Holland are almost always invaded by the Germans in 1939 in GS v2.0. It's necessary to make the invasion of France and Norway take place normally. E. g. you need airbases in northern Denmark to be able to paradrop into Oslo. You need control of Copenhagen to sail the warships towards Norway etc. With Denmark neutral it's very hard to take Norway.
Taking out Belgium in one turn is much harder if Holland is neutral.

If you're playing PBEM then your game saves only when you end your turn. You cannot save it during a turn like you should be able to when playing against the AI or hotseat. If you're playing against the AI or heatseat and can't save your turn then there's an issue. Which is the case?msu7151 wrote:MORE PROBLEMS! First, I cannot save any game. How do I correct that?
Can you expand on what you mean by disappearing?msu7151 wrote:Also, any other year but 1939 plays for one turn then disappears. Need a fix for that also. Game looks great if I could only play it.
By the way are you on a PC or MAC? Is GS or the vanilla game? And, what is your base game? (i.e., CEaW 1.12 Gold or Military History version). If GS, is this the first time you've installed it?
I verified that with my install I can play different scenarios against the AI and the save the game turns. Can you save any other game turns? That is, turns from hotseat or PBEM games? It almost sounds to me that you don't have privileges to save files to where the game is trying to save them; i.e.,msu7151 wrote:I am using a PC to play the game. I installed 2.0 over 1.12. It's when I play against the AI that I cannot save any game. This is my first install of GS. When I say the game disappears, I mean it turns itself off completely.
My Documents\CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0\data\pbem. Did you install and are you running the game with administrator privileges?
Also, is it possible that you have your anti-virus program configured such that it's not letting GS (or CEaW) to save game turn?
By the way, can you save turns from the vanilla, or standard, CEaW game?
Game seemed to install properly.
After launching I can hear music and see the Slitherine logo. But the game then immediately closes. As it does, I can see the CMD window display an error that says something about a "waterhex"... but I can't read the error in full because I cannot figure out how to stop it from closing as well.
The vanilla game still works propperly.
Obligatory "I'm using an XP system" goes here.

What you described is exactly what happened to me when I installed GSv2.00 without first uninstalling GSv1.06. For a fix see: viewtopic.php?p=228286#228286 and viewtopic.php?p=228289#228289baconlol3 wrote:Game seemed to install properly.

That probably isn't the case since I did not have 1.06 or any other version but 2.0.rkr1958 wrote:What you described is exactly what happened to me when I installed GSv2.00 without first uninstalling GSv1.06. For a fix see: viewtopic.php?p=228286#228286 and viewtopic.php?p=228289#228289
Perhaps I have done something else wrong. Its Military History by the way. And I've patched it to 1.12.
Luvin' it!
Downloaded Mac version this morning and have been immediately sidetracked from doing any real work!
This is a great upgrade, the graphics, the added cities/ports, the paratroopers!!! Nice to see a "tip of the cap" to to the board games from Avalon-Hill and the like, I still play those too (and the new ones from Multi-Man, etc.), but can't play those games without commandeering the family's dinning room table LOL
And so far, it's not making my Mac run run its cooling fan constantly like CEAW 1.06 always did.
I'm running it in windowed mode on a MacBook Pro 2.2GHz i7 with OS X 10.6.7.
Thanks Slitherine!

CEAW-GS 2.0 Mac - move data folder out of \Documents?
For Mac users, is there a way to get GS 2.0 to permanently find the "CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0" data folder created in \Documents elsewhere on your HD, say in your Home\Library\? That make sense?
I can move this folder manually and when I open GS 2.0, point to saved games or save games to the moved folder, but GS 2.0 still wants to recreate a new data folder in \Documents each time I've moved it from there.
A minor detail, but handy if you have all your games and data elsewhere on your drive.
Thanks!
