Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update

Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
The new update makes the game nearly unplayable for me. Besides the already reported issues with UI and graphics, the CPU is now running so hot, the fan and even the extra cooling board I bought to play OOB on my notebook is not enough to cope with it, so it does the emergency shutdown/turn off to prevent any damage on my computer. OK, I admit, my notebook is more than 4 years old now and not state of the art, but that the game makes the CPU run so hot is not a good thing.

Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
Yeah, you can't play the new content with the older versions, as the files do not contain the required units, etc. for the new campaigns.
For RedStar it's (at least) version 8.1.0, I believe, and for RedSteel it's v8.4.1.
I know it's annoying and I hope it gets fixed soon, but you should be able to play normally after you've closed the warning messages, right?
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
The same here - game is unplayable now - to many new bugs - and also my engine running hot - I have a 2 years old machine with NVDIA 1080 graphical card and 4 core processor. No problems with games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or battlefield V - both running on maximum power on my computer - but little OoB poops...The new update makes the game nearly unplayable for me. Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
It may be the resolution chosen but any smaller resolution is unplayable. See attached images. Previous version OOB at 2048x1152 (plays fine). Please note the size of the window relative to the whole screen. The same resolution (see attached) in 8.4.1 is unusably small, hence the need to run it at such a high resolution.

And the 8.4.1 screen at the same resolution.
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
Yes, After I closed the 'PBEM' error message, I could play OOB: Red Steel 8.4.1.GabeKnight wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 1:12 pmYeah, you can't play the new content with the older versions, as the files do not contain the required units, etc. for the new campaigns.

I didn't like the 'Unity' software it added to my PC under 'New Programs', so,
This is where I ran into trouble as I was trying to Roll back the original 'OOB' Game to version 7.1.4 and once I did this, noticed my 'OOB: Red Star' DLC was missing from the Games', 'Campaign' selection screen.
At this point I tried reinstall My 'OOB: Red Star' DLC from the Matrix / Slitherine website which in turn directs me to install an older version of the original 'OOB' game which doesn't exist in the Matrix / Slitherine Website 'Order of Battle' File Folder.
So, I'm stuck on OOB: Version 7.1.4 with no 'OOB: Red Star or Red Steel' content.
I'll wait to see if a Newer Patch than 8.4.1 comes out for the Game that unincorporates the 'Unity' software and that should make me Happy.
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
Isn't Unity the software that was used to program OOB?
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
styler62, if you are using the standalone version of OOB (so non-Steam), and have v 7.1.4 installed you can dl-the update to 8.4.1 (needed for Red Steel) via "my page/downloads" at Slitherine. A new patch will hopefully come soon, but Unity is the game engine used by OOB, so that doesn't change.
At " my page/downloads" there are links for PC and Mac versions. You need to be logged in there to do that of course.

Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
Next bug: After using the scenario editor - the button going out to desktop no more work ! I tested it 5 times...
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
Thanks for these screens, they're really instructive. It looks like the old version essentially ran at double dpi on your 5k display? Whereas the newer version, now it supports higher resolutions, is rendering at normal dpi.
We'll take a look and see if we can find a solution that works in this situation.

'Thanks' for trying to mediate my problem.
The thing is,
I don't want to go to OOB: Version 8.4.1 as it Installs 'some type' of the 'Unity Software' which appears as a 'recently added program' to My 'Program Files' on My PC.
In the previous version of OOB for 'Red Star', It did not 'Install' the 'Unity Software' in this fashion, showing it as a recently added program to My 'Program Files',
So, I felt comfortable with that older version.
Even though I purchased the OOB: Red Steel DLC,
I'm not planning to 'Re-Install' it again, Until I feel comfortable with having it on my PC.
I would like to just go back to the older version of OOB: That originally Installed the 'Red Star' DLC,
So, I can get 'Red Star' DLC going again without doing the 8.4.1 Game Update.
In the Interim,
Like you suggested, I'll probaby just wait for a Patch or open a 'Trouble Ticket' in regards my observations and needs, should it become a pressing issue for me.
'Thanks' Again,
Styler62
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
Unity is (still...) the game engine used to create OOB.
No Unity means no OOB.
It is a bit strange that 8.4.1 won't run well on a "4096 × 2160 Pixel on an 4k Phillips".
OOB looks very nice on my 3840x2160 monitor (the resolution recommended for my monitor).
Have you tried switching between full screen and windowed?

Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
A couple of other things I've noticed:
In the 2nd battle around Stalingrad, one of the main objectives is to defeat the Hungarians along the northern river line. The objective is indicated by taking 3 towns, however appears to be completed by killing a number of units. I have been awarded this objective when at least one of the towns is not taken.
In the second battle around Novorossiysk, there is a secondary objective to take one of the three silver objectives, yet there is no reward for doing so (panel states "no reward"). Why would you bother then? Given that it's the last battle of the campaign, perhaps it should be a primary?

I assume this is about Winterstorm. You need to destroy a number of Romanian units for this - it should say so in the objective description that shows when you click the blue "?" for the Chir objective.
The markers on these hexes are mostly an extra visual help to indicate where the Chir defensive line runs- history buffs will know, but not everyone may be familiar with this. As these are primary hexes, you need to take them anyway to complete the 3rd primary objective. But the specific objective to defeat Chir river defences is triggered by unit count.
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
I hadn't played OOTB in a long time until the quarantine hit, then I got addicted to it. But then the Red Steel patch came out and made not only that DLC unplayable (because of the impossible to see images and text; see my earlier posts in this thread) ) but also all the other DLCs as well. I'm suffering withdrawal. Help! When's the next patch coming?!
Re: Order of Battle: World War II - v8.4.1 Update
Aside from the already mentioned issue with Leader traits no longer being visible, there is another that I find even more frustrating. When upgrading units, the selection automatically defaults to the cheapest unit. I'm pretty sure I remember this not being the case previously and you could hover over another unit to view what benefit a new unit would provide over the current unit. Often the obsolete unit is no longer available to purchase so there is no easy way to figure out if the upgrade is worth the expenditure.
