Re: Which point is exciting for you on DF?

The point I find most exciting in Desert Fox is the point at which the German is in a position to exit units from the map. It is extremely hard to get six units off, but I almost always try it, because the alternative is not so exciting, as you mention. Of the three Shenandoah games, Bulge and Deser...

Re: Clarification on Flak combat rules?

In the example you pose (flak already in a space and then new friendly units enter and combat ensues), that counts as an "attack" because you initiated combat on your impulse. So the flak does not fire. Regarding whether it functions as elite, I had this same problem where half of the forc...

Re: First thoughts

We hear you. But is there a reason you're not playing via Game Center? David, while I'm very sympathetic to the "We designed a great balanced multiplayer game for a platform that is perfect for that, why aren't you playing it that way?" line of thinking, I urge you to reconsider single-pl...

Re: Pocket Tournament Round 1

In the Quarter to Three leagues we use first name and last initial, and since Gamecenter sorts on first name for some reason, this seems to be an adequate compromise between utility and privacy.

Re: Pocket Tournament Round 1

Round 1 results to report: spacerumsfeld defeats gregorit 4 points to 1 with a victory as Germans (reached Meuse at Ouffet) and a draw as Allies (Germans captured Bastogne but did not reach Meuse). Screens posted below. Thanks to gregorit for his customary extremely skilled play. Win as Axis: https:...

Re: I really like Endgame

I'm thinking of organizing a small (nothing like the 64-player one that just ended) tournament using the "Endgame" scenario. I thought it would be interesting to see how that goes before play gets stereotyped or people "figure out" the right moves, if there are indeed any to figu...

Re: Tournament?

Just as a point of closure, the 64-player tournament has finished. A good time was had by all, or so I'm told by the participants. Results are posted here: http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?71804-Official-QtT-Shenandoah-Studio-sponsored-Battle-of-the-Bulge-Tournament&p=33862...

Re: I really like Endgame

Is it just me or is the AI markedly better at Endgame than the main scenario ? At least as Axis... I think this may be because the scenario feels pro-Axis in balance ... that may just be me, though. The AI might also be better because as the Axis it needs to do two things: keep units from becoming ...

Re: Rules clarification: elite infantry

I am almost certain it is half of the defending force. One four-pip elite infantry, one three-pip nonelite infantry, and a two-pip armor would NOT get the elite infantry defense bonus (although they would get the armor bonus).

Is that correct, Shenandoah?

Re: I really like Endgame

Interesting - so now the British are released only when the Germans *cross* the Meuse, not just reach it? This essentially means that the British only get released early if the Allies are about to lose the game. I also don't think this will happen often, if ever.

Anyway, interesting condition.

Re: Play balance

Let me pose a hypothetical question: if players were bidding for sides would that make experienced Axis players think hard before turtling (making it something rare); or would bidding encourage it? I don't think that question can be answered a priori. You could make an argument that players would p...

The Allies beat the turtle by holding St. Vith until the 21st. I agree that if you are able to do this as the Allies, you will beat the turtle as well.

Re: Play balance

The issue described is largely created by the condition that triggers an early British arrival. Take that away such that the British always arrive 'early' and you're a big step forward towards balancing the game. Yojimbo, thanks for reading and offering your comments. I do respectfully disagree tha...

VP Thresholds in manual and game do not match?

I noticed that the VP thresholds listed in this file: http://www.shenandoah-studio.com/Forum/download/file.php?id=1 do not match the ones listed in the game help file. I believe the ones in the game are accurate (at least the game seems to use them) so maybe the file should be updated. I have never ...

Re: Geographical error/question: Gemund

The map is not exactly accurate. Some abstraction and manipulation had to take place to allow us the area boundaries we wanted while still being able to fit six units in any given area and to ensure the interface panels didn't obscure anything vital when zoomed out. Understood. I was not suggesting...
