Re: Custom Campaigns - More Settings?

I was not suspecting an oversight; just making an attempt to nudge you a little to perhaps reconsider. :)

Re: Are the Etruscans perhaps a bit short-changed?

So I was not really thinking to make them cheaper. I was thinking to make them not raw.

Re: Are the Etruscans perhaps a bit short-changed?

These are mostly MP arguments, but I was thinking history. I do not really see why they should necessarily not be citizen hoplites or italian foot.

Are the Etruscans perhaps a bit short-changed?

I mean, yes, they lost against the Romans. But, other than that, is there evidence that nearly all their Hoplites were low quality?

Re: Custom Campaigns - More Settings?

One thing I would like is the Allies a bit more restricted by an actual Allied Leader, it would improve immersion if you can´t distribute them all over the place, but have to use them as a distinct separate contingent. So the advantage of having Allies that can compensate for some weakness would com...

Re: What is the Historical/Concrete Explanation for How Lancers are typically used?

I am generally rather happy with the latest official cavalry mechanics; they are not so easy to catch any more in a bad melee, making them more useful than they were.

I am actually more interested in the ultra-early period.
Though I will take any DLC.

Re: Rearguard Action

Yeah I think the Romans will slice me up. The game system really favours the stronger side, good for the AI, but playing for time with a much weaker army is perhaps a bit more difficult than irl.

Rearguard Action

I am somewhat puzzled by this situation and need advice. It is the 6th battle in a 7-battles generic campaign Pyrrhic vs. Roman. I got the decision fighting a significantly larger army or a Rearguard Action. I chose the Rearguard. I didn´t get to choose the units; rather, the game gave me a Closed O...

Re: SUGGESTION: Changes To Victory Conditions

I would prefer the weight of units for rout % depending on pts value rather than numbers. (Reason being if Elites rout probably more demoralizing than if mob routs.) There is a (good) reason we did not do it this way - if the cheaper units don't count as much for army morale, they can be (unrealist...

Not all that happy so far. Visited my page and:

1. Have Fog2 Wolves, but it does not appear in My Games list.
2. Tried to download Magnifico and got an error message. :?:

Re: Archers too weak

Archers are not weak per se, but Combined Arms (fire & melee units working close together) is not exactly encouraged by the system.

I found the enemy units has a smaller angle on forcing fallback test than zoc.
I just retreated an irregular from spearmen's secondary zoc like below, no cohesion test taken.

This sounds like a bug.

Re: Fall back cohesion test conditions

So the test applies even if the enemy foot unit within two squares is already in melee? What about if the unit is facing in the wrong direction? AFAIK the test is not triggered in either event, but if not, I don't really understand what it means to say that there is no "test for whether the enemy c...

Re: Fall back cohesion test conditions

It's only vague in the sense that it doesn't tell you if it will test. If you're within 2 squares of enemy infantry, or 4 of cavalry, it will test. As Richard pointed out, the fact that ordering a Fall Back doesn't cause nearby friendly units to also test is generous. I actually don´t care if the r...

Re: Fall back cohesion test conditions

The algorithm used does not test for whether the enemy can actually charge, it only tests from them being within their normal charge distance - i.e. 2 squares for most infantry, 4 squares for most cavalry. The logic is that the men in the unit don't think it through in such detail, they just have a...

Re: Flanking Bug

The enemy, iIrc, turned 45 left, then 45 right twice to get around the in-between melee. Maybe not a bug, but I think shouldn´t be allowed. Not a realistic manoeuvre. I think the game simulated something like, the formation walks horizontally without turning it face. Walking doesn't take much time,...
