FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
We are in a position to run a small FoGR event at the Polly Bowls Club, Unwin Road, Sutton in Ashfield, Notts, NG17 4HN.
As this will be the first event back there will be no theme, but 15mm armies taken from any of the army list books will be acceptable, to a 650 points maximum.
All the usual errata/amends will be used. If someone has a copy of the standard results sheets, could they please forward it to me.
The event will be over 3 rounds as this will only be one day (Sat Sept 5th 2020).
Each game will be 2 1/2 hours. There will be 30 minute breaks between rounds, unless of course you finish early, when I reserve the right to get games back underway asap. Obviously there will still be a 30min lunch break.
Game times will be:
Registration 8.30 - 9.00
9.00am - 11.30
12.00 - 2.30
3.00 - 5.30
Wrapping up 5.45 ish.
We do have several fast food outlets in easy reach including a fish and chip shop at the end of the road, and a McDonalds. Supermarkets are also close by.
The entry fee will be £10 per head, and we will supply tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day.
In order to make allowances for the current Covid pandemic, please note the following:
There will be hand sanitisers around the room, please use them.
As the tables will be 6'x4' we do not believe that masks are essential, but I have no problem in people wanting to wear them at all.
The toilet facilities in the venue have had all the doors tied back. Only 1 person at a time should use them, and if you do use them please ensure that you clean up after you (suitable cleaning materials are supplied in the toilets). We have tried to limit touching points as much as possible.
Please bring your own cup/mug for drinks, as then it eliminates another cleaning point for all of us.
Please respect social distancing at all times, and we strongly suggest that players only use their own dice. Please refrain from touching opponents dice and figures throughout the days gaming.
All players details will be kept for Track and Trace (3 weeks).
All that said, there has been some interest in this already, but please respond back to me on my email, trevor.allens.email@gmail.com
We, (Mansfield, Polly Bowls Wargamers) look forward to hosting you for this and future events.
Regards
Trevor Allen

Hi Trev
Having looked into the options of "no theme" and "any army from any book / list" - I must confess to finding that a challenge! It's not that I have as extensive a set of armies to pick from as someone like Bob (Viking123) Metcalf (and yes I have seen the inside of his garage and been grateful that he has been able to lend me armies for some of the more obscure/unfamiliar OWS themed events over recent years); but more that I could take any one of a number of my ECW/TYW configurations; or any of my Kiel pike block options, or my Buccaneers, or my Japanese Samurai, or my Ottomans, or Poles/Cossacks/Tartars.....
Could throw up some interesting miss-matches!!

So far the entry list is:
Keith Spedding
Ray Boyles
David Burrows
Trevor Allen
Dene Green
Quinton Dalton
Plenty of room available at the venue still.
Whilst I agree about Dave's comments above re "open" event, I consider this more of an opportunity for all of us to get out and play some games. Yes, there will be a winner, and I'll be gobsmacked if I'm in the top half! However if anyone wants to borrow an army I have several so can lend the out on the day if required. Mis - matches there could be, but as yet, I have not played a Kiel type army against an ECW one as an example, so I cant really make a comment on that. I need this one for experience purposes.

Trevor
Can you confirm size of table? You refer to 6 x 4 but 650 PST is normally 5 x 3? Also do you want lists beforehand or is this more casual?

Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
I would have thought 5x3; and as it is a "pot luck" event, could be fun to just show up with a list, David (B)
Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
5 x 3 makes more sense with 650pts. Happy to turn up with list
Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
I was going with 6x4 tables, as that is what they are!
Has anyone got the scoring system used at events earlier this year, as I dont have a copy of it? If so please email it to me>
I have enough armies to help out if some players dont have what they are want, but if you need one please contact me on email on a first come first served basis.

Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
HI Trevor,
I've got plenty of scoresheets and will bring them along. It does exist somewhere online but I can't remember where.
I agree with Keith that 5x3 tables are much better for 650pts. 6x4 tables are too big for 650pts and we only have 2.5 hours per game. We have some 5x3 cloths at the club which I can bring if necessary.
regards Dene

Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
I have been quite excited about the prospect of getting the "little men" back on the table after such a long lay-off; however, as I mentioned to Trev when he first mooted the event that I had a potential clash with this date - and so it seems that it will most likely come to pass and I will, alas, probably not make it. I will know for certain by early next week.
Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
I also have 5 x 3 mats

Still room for more players. Indeed it would be good to even up the numbers.

I am sorry to confirm that I will not be able to make this after all. Trev - very sorry, was looking forward to it, at least you are back to even numbers!

Please send lists for checking to Ray Boyles no later than Sunday 30th September.
Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
If things change Dave you can still come along.
Re: FoGR tournament in Sutton in Ashfield - Sat Sep 5th 2020
I doubt it, but thanks for the offer! I should have offered to do the list checking, then at least I would have felt a bit involved!
