Kushan list

Post by frederic »

Hi,

Are 12 pike poor interesting to protect the flank of the cataphracts ?
I should use 4 cataphracts BG for impact, 2 bowmen BG to go in the terrain, but nor the CV unprotected nor the LH seem to be able to cover the flank of cataphracts.

Thanks for your help and comment.

Perhaps, but:

- the pike are slower than the cataphracts. So using them to protect will slow the cataphracts.
- what will protect the pike flank? Poor pike really don't like being on the end of the line: shooting, enemy overlaps.

You just need to get the cats in without threat of flank intercept charge, once they are in they need to break through quickily, and can do. Against something like Dom Rom you may need to go wide and shallow and protect the cats with cats.

So I may have better to use a CV unprotected to protect the cataphracts from beeing charged in the flank.

You are not going to be able to protect the flanks of everything. Using LH gives the Cats a bit of distance between it and anything to the flank and the LH can run away. Unprotected cav will need protecting itself.

As Phil says you can use light to occupy the space on the flank.

other options are a Chionite ally gives a unit of decent cav or play the Kushites predecessors Greko-Bactrian which is a siliar army but can have drilled cataphracts.

I suppose some sort of 'classicising' 'city militia' style unit is possible.. :D
